Providing guests with wedding favors is fun and an excellent way of saying thank you for their support and participation in your wedding. If you want to buy favors, you will need to have a final count for the number of guests. To play it safe, you should always plan to have about 20 favors extra.
Regarding cost, there are no hard guidelines, simply what you can afford. For favors, you could spend as little as $.25 to as much as $200, just depending on your financial means and personal preference. Remember, your guest are not expecting anything at all so receiving a special treat is an unexpected surprise that will be loved.
Favors can be just about anything from an etched wine glass, wine charms, containers with coffee or tea, flower seeds or bulbs, soap, candles, a handwritten poem, and so on. The goal however, is to coordinate the wedding favor as closely as you can with your wedding colors and theme.
Although buying favors is a common practice, if you want to stretch outside the box and save money, you might consider making your own. In fact, this would be the perfect opportunity to get the wedding party together and have a party while making the favors. More than likely, you will have several people that come up with excellent ideas or you might even have a talented family member or friend that can teach everyone how to make something spectacular.
For example, perhaps you know of someone that has a real talent for making homemade fudge. You can work with this person in buying wedding molds and then have a blast creating very special gifts. Your guests would be thrilled to find a piece of chocolate fudge in the shape of a heart sitting on their plate at the reception. The possibilities are endless limited only by your imagination and creativity.
